countdown. >> these are radio's hottest hits by music's hottest stars. >> reporter: he's the legendary deejay with that recognizable voice that counted down our favorite songs for decades. casey kasem, born in detroit, michigan, never intended to spin records as a career. >> didn't want to be a disc jock jockey. >> reporter: but everywhere he turned there was a radio, from a high school radio show to working for armed forces radio shows. on july 4, 1970, american top 40 was launched with kasem pioneering the countdown format what dick clark was to television pop music, kasem was to radio. also delivering thousands of those special dedications to millions of listeners. >> a long distance dedication from patty to roger. >> reporter: he even helped bring cartoon characters to life. most famously as the voice of

shaggy on scooby-doo. >> here he comes! >> reporter: in the '80s his hit radio show became a spinoff television show. after 39 years, kasem's fans were shocked when he announced his retirement and handed over his microphone to ryan seacrest. he later would develop parkinson's disease which would lead to a family feud between his second wife and his three oldest children who claim he was kept from them. >> he can't really speak, he knows we're there. >> i'm casey kasem. >> reporter: his memorable may have been silenced, but during his last show he said good-bye to his fans the best way he knew how. >> keep your feet on the ground and keach reachiep reaching for. we want to go back to the memorial for poet maya angelou.

♪ >> reporter: how do you honor a woman that has meant so much to so many people. >> she was a great inspiration. >> reporter: judith flynn was one of hundreds pouring into the church to remember the late maya angelou. when i read about this, i thought there's no way i could miss it. glide is maya, maya is glide. >> reporter: most of angelou's ties to san francisco were deep. she became the first black car streetcar conductor before a stint at the purple onion. today's service included words by california congresswoman barbara lee who remembered dr. angelou as a mentor. mayor ed lee, guy johnson, her oldest son, and former san francisco mayor willie brown were also in attendance. in a rare display of humility, mayor brown joked about how dr.

angelou would often keep him in his place during his time at city hall. >> on every occasion, when i interacted with her, she reminded me of what i was doing wrong. >> reporter: glide's rousing spirit filled choir led the congregation through an array of gospel songs as parishioners remembered the clever woman with the deep faith and love of humanity. >> we can certainly find a means to better ourselves to better our community, to better our world. >> if you look at what she's done, listen to what she says, then you should feel like there's no barrier that you can't overcome. >> reporter: maya's oldest son told the congregation his mother lived many places but always considered san francisco home. nick smith, nabc 7 news. a homeless man was killed this morning by a suspected

drunk driver. police were called to the scene shortly after 1:00 a.m. the driver of an suv apparently missed a curve and drove into a clearing killing the man sleeping in a tent. a friend of the victim called it a preventable accident. >> there's been 11 accidents here that i've been a part of responding to and after each one, mentioned, hey, can't you put a light up there that warns people, slow down? there's a sharp curve ahead. >> richard identifies the deceased as willie williams. the driver of the suv, 27-year-old jaime juarez was taken to the hospital before being booked for vehicular man slaughter and suspicion of felony dui. community members are arnlging the san francisco archbishop to reconsider speaking at what they call an anti-gay rally. flyers were hand out this morning. they asked church members to tell the archbishop not to speak at the march for marriage in

washington, d.c. he was called for a constitutional amendment prohibiting gay couples from marrying. >> this particular bishop has been anti-gay, tried to divide the city around this issue. we think this is a time for inclusion. pope francis in particular, when he said who am i to judge about gay people, really is calling us to be a church that welcomes all. >> we have contacted the san francisco archdiocese, but we are still waiting for a response. we have new video today of a house fire that injured three people. the fire started in the home's garage this morning and quickly spread to the living room. this is video provided by the fire department. four family members were inside the home. two suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns. a firefighter also suffered a minor burn. the red cross is helping the family find another place to stay. investigators say an unattended hot plate in the garage started the fire. a viewer captured this video

of a grass fire has burned close 101 in novato. flames spread quickly near a parched hillside. fire crews used air tankers in their assault. the flames charred more than six acres. a san francisco man once the focus of an intense fbi manhunt is set to be arraigned tomorrow on bomb and gun charmings. last week a grand jury indicted 42-year-old ryan chamberlain on allegations else was trying to build a remote controlled bomb. the indictment charges chamberlain of possessing a gun without serial numbers. chamberlain was arrested earlier this month at chrissy field after a three-day manhunt. he faces up to ten years in prison if convicted. right now state lawmakers gathered to vote on a $108 billion spending plan. they face a midnight deadline to pass a budget. the budget then would have to get the governor's approval.

governor brown and democratic leaders last week agreed on the main points for the budget that begins july 1st. it includes millions of dollars for the controversial high speed rail project. the governor wants to use surplus cash to beef up a rainy day fund. the world's richest person and his wife, bill and melinda gates, were the commencement speakers at stanford today. >> some people call you all nerds. we hear that you claim that label with pride. >> well, so do we. >> the gates also spoke about the power of optimism and how it fuels innovation, leads to new approaches that eliminate suffering. today was stanford's 123rd commencement. a tough wildfire season in california just got worse.

welcome back. investigators suspect possible arson in a fast moving wildfire

that burned dangerously close to homes in san rafael. investigators say it appears to have started in more than one place indicating it may have been intentionally set. they're now interviewing witnesses and collecting more information. the fire forced evacuations of about 50 homes on channing way and contempo marin. the fire was contained in about two hours. developing news, a fire is burning now in kern county. the shirley fire has prompted evacuation in wafford heights. the fire started friday night and has grown to 1,800 acres. more than 500 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. fire crews say the flames are putting out a lot of smoke and it could cause breathing problems for some people in the area. >> it's been very hot and the winds have been slightly erratic. that's the toughest challenge that we have. the firefighters will, as the sun goes down, everything calms down, they'll be able to aggressively attack the fire.

>> 450 firefighters are fighting the flames it is 10% contained. new details in the muni labor dispute. the current contract for san francisco muni operators expires today. there's no word of progress on a new deal. the last known contract talks happened wednesday. today transportation officials tell abc 7 news they want to resume mediation early this week. there are calls for raises of 11% over two years but require workers to contribute 7.5% to their pensions. muni said if there is no new agreement today, the current contract remains in place for a year, and drivers would give up a pay raise set for july 1st. an update to a story we told you about last night at 11:00. jetblue is now apologizing to a boston mother who said she was nearly kicked off a flight after her 3-year-old was forced to urinate in her seat. jennifer devereaux and her

daughter were flying from new york boston when the flight was delayed on the runway. a flight attendant refused to let her child use the bathroom, and the child united on herself. the mother got up to clean up the mess and the flight attendant yelled at her. >> she said i'm a mom, too, i totally understand what you are going through. i don't care about a voucher. that kind of stuff doesn't matter to me, but i did want an apology for my family because we really felt like we were mistreated, we felt awful about it. >> jetblue says its employees will undergo sensitivity training. the airline offered the devereauxes a $50 credit and $5,000 to be given to a charity of their choice. the drought now forcing young salmon to hit the road, not the river in california. we'll explain that ahead. check this out a natural light show leaves people amazed. we'll tell you where. nothing that dramatic here.

than normal because of the dry weather. we want to share with you some amazing images from croatia. these impressive pictures were taken as a storm came over croatia sunday night. the lightning strikes could be seen all over the ocean-front city. the storm also brought heavy rain and hail. beautiful, but severe. of course we're enjoying some mild weather here in the bay are area. >> good evening, live doppler 7 hd showing you high clouds passing through, even low clouds off the peninsula coast that have stayed there throughout the day. check out winds. they picked up if you have noticed, winds gusting over 20 miles per hour. really feeding into the bay, spreading out. you can tell by the direction of the arrows. right now temperatures are a bit cooler compared to 24 hours ago. that trend will continue into monday. here's a beautiful view from the exploratory, looking out to the

bay and the rippling water. there's a small craft advisory until 10:00 tonight. it's currently 61 in san francisco. oakland, 65. san carlo, 68. san jose, 73. morgan hill, 64. half moon bay, 57 degrees. from the east bay look out west, you can see some of those clouds there. the coastal clouds in the distance. in santa rosa, still 80. napa, 70. novato, 75. fairfield, 80. concord, livermore in the upper 70s. we can see some clouds starting to spill in as well from the coast. we'll see increasing clouds overnight. waking up to some possible patchy morning fog. monday is the coolest day of the week. it will be warming up midweek. so, as we look at the pacific satellite image, we have this area of low pressure, the jet stream helps to increase the onshore winds. that helps to drive temperatures down. as this trough deepens, more cooling for monday, then after that high pressure will rebuild

once again. temperatures warm up to the 80s inland through the middle of the week. overnight lows will be in the upper 40s to low 50s. fairly uniform. 49 in half moon bay. 51 in santa cruz. look at the extensive cloud cover you'll wake up to. 52 in livermore and in fremont. so, here's the forecast animation. after 5:00 tomorrow, you will notice the clouds will pull back. areas of green show possible precipitation. so we might see a width of drizzle. again, patchy fog, most likely near the coast notice how temperatures will be cooler as well. 50s along the coast this time instead of the 60s. we'll drop into the 60s around the bay. 70s in the warmest locations, if you want the 80s that will be more in the central valley. so it's going to be a bit milder, more comfortable for interior valleys. overall, a nice day. in san jose, 72 for you. 73 in gilroy. 70 in sunnyvale. on the lower part of the
